Art submissions are being accepted for the third edition of Local Biodiversity Outlooks (LBO-3) until 19 June, 2026. Please scroll to the end of the page to find out more about how to get in contact.
What is the Local Biodiversity Outlooks?
Local Biodiversity Outlooks (LBO) is a multimedia publication (a written report and an accompanying website) that highlights the vital role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in conserving and sustainably using biodiversity. It draws on information and case studies contributed by Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and organisations working in partnership with them, worldwide.
LBO is a joint initiative by the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB), the Indigenous Women’s Biodiversity Network (IWBN), the network of Centres of Distinction on Indigenous and Local Knowledge (COD-ILK) and the Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) that seeks to complement Parties’ reporting on the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The first edition was published in 2016, and the second in 2020. Work is now beginning on the third edition, due for release in 2026 at COP-17.
Who can contribute?
We are looking for Indigenous and local community artists and illustrators to share or produce work that expresses the diverse relationship these communities have with their lands, cultures and biodiversity. Proposals will be reviewed by the Working Group on Communications for LBO-3.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for new or existing illustrations and artworks that express themes related to the relationship Indigenous Peoples and local communities have with lands, cultures and biodiversity. LBO-3 covers many themes relevant to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and is linked to the 23 targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework. We would only need a digital copy of the artwork and would offer a small honorarium for the rights to use it in relation to the LBO.
How to get in touch
We invite potential contributors to contact Frances Jenner at fjenner@forestpeoples.org with some examples of their work, and any particular pieces that they think would be appropriate for the LBO-3. Accepted proposals may be used in the LBO-3 report, in printed and online promotional materials (postcards, social media) and the LBO website.
Consent and rights
We will only publish material with Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and where there is confirmation that the artist agrees to the sharing of their work. All work will be credited appropriately to the artist.
