The Local Biodiversity Outlooks were created to complement the Global Biodiversity Outlook, the flagship publication of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD). Whereas the Global Biodiversity Outlook focuses on the status and trends of biodiversity, the Local Biodiversity Outlook highlights the role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in conserving and protecting this biodiversity.
Local Biodiversity Outlooks 3
LBO-3 examines what has changed since the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was adopted, how biodiversity policies are affecting Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and the contributions they are making towards achieving its goals and targets.
Read the report on the LBO-3 site (in English, French and Spanish) and browse using the interactive case study directory, or download the report and the summary (also in Russian) as PDFs.
Local Biodiversity Outlooks 2
In 2016, Parties welcomed the LBO-1 and requested a second edition to be launched in conjunction with the fifth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook in 2020. The LBO-2 was prepared in response to this request, and also focuses on the Aichi Biodiversity Targets for 2020.
Area-based Conservation Targets
This briefing seeks to bring greater clarity to the intersection between the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and the land and resource rights, collective governance and self-determination of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
Biodiversity and Finance
This briefing gives an overview of biodiversity finance and makes a case for increasing support to customary rights-holders. It also describes the financial flows driving the destruction on biodiversity, and shows how they harm local people as well as nature.
Local Biodiversity Outlooks 1
Published in 2016, the LBO-1 was produced as a complement to the fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook. It brings together case studies that show how Indigenous Peoples and local communities have contributed towards the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
